Frequently Asked Questions About Our Stump Grinding Services

Get answers to your stump removal inquiries
How much does stump grinding cost?

Our stump grinding services typically start from $150, depending on factors like stump size and location. For an accurate estimate, we recommend scheduling a free consultation.

Is stump grinding messy?

While stump grinding does create wood chips and debris, I takes precautions to minimize the mess. I rake the area afterward to leave your yard looking tidy.

What happens to the leftover stump after grinding?

After grinding, we leave a 3 to 4-inch mulch layer from the stump. You can use this mulch in your garden or landscaping, or we can help you remove it from your property if preferred.

How deep do you grind the stump?

I grind stumps 4–6 inches below ground level as standard. That's deep enough to plant grass over, lay sod, or put down mulch.

Do you haul away the grindings?

By default, I leave the grindings on-site — they make great mulch and will naturally compost into the hole over time. If you'd rather have them hauled away, I offer that as an add-on, and I can also fill the hole with quality topsoil so you can seed or lay sod right away. Just ask during your estimate.

Do I need to be home when you grind?

Nope. As long as I have access to the stump and clear direction on which ones to grind, you don't need to be there. A lot of my customers schedule jobs during the workday and come home to a finished yard. Payment can be handled afterward.

Will grinding damage my yard, fence, or sprinklers?

I take care to work around landscaping, fences, and sprinkler heads — please point out anything underground I should know about (sprinkler lines, invisible fences, utility lines) during the estimate. I also call 811 before any digging work. Stump grinding itself is surface-level work, so damage is rare when you flag obstacles upfront.

Are you insured?

Yes. Firehouse Stump Grinding is fully insured, and I'm happy to provide proof of insurance before any work begins. Never hire anyone for tree or stump work who can't show you this.

What areas do you serve?

I'm based in Fort Worth and travel up to about an hour out. That covers Fort Worth, Arlington, Benbrook, Burleson, Crowley, Mansfield, Keller, Haltom City, White Settlement, Weatherford, Azle, and most of the western DFW metro. If you're not sure, just call — I probably cover you.

How do I get an estimate?

Call or text me at (817) 767-9049. For most jobs I'll swing by to see the stump in person — it only takes a few minutes and the estimate is always free. For smaller jobs, a clear photo with something for scale (a shoe or soda can next to the stump) is often enough.

How soon can you come out?

I usually schedule jobs within a few days, sometimes same-week for smaller ones. Because I'm an active firefighter, my availability shifts with my shift schedule — but I return every call and message within a few hours. Also, I get 811 to mark utilities which can take up to two business days.

How do I pay?

I accept Bitcoin, cash, check, Venmo, and major credit cards. Payment is due when the job is finished. (Cash and Bitcoin discounts available)

What about roots underground?

Stump grinding removes the stump and the roots right at its base, but the long lateral roots underground are left to decompose naturally over 5–10 years. This is standard for all stump grinding — full root removal requires excavation, which costs 3–5x more and tears up your yard.
